Strategy
Knowing both what you want the website to accomplish for your organization and what you want it to accomplish for your users will help create a solid foundation for the overall user experience.
1) Do you have brand guidelines/style guides for your company?
2) What are your product objectives? (Internally, what do you want the website to accomplish for your company?)
3) How will this website advance or influence your organization’s over-arching goals?
4) What is the primary goal? Any secondary goals?
5) How will you measure these goals?
6) Who are your users? Who are you trying to reach? (gender, age, education, income, attitudes, perceptions, professions, interests)
7) Are your users web savvy?
8) Do your users understand the subject matter? (beginners, experts)
9) What are your user needs? (What would you like your users to get out of this experience)?
10) What do you want the user to think after they experience your website?
Scope
The scope will provide somewhat of a checklist about what is to be included with the website, including both functions/features and content. To help create requirements it helps to make up scenarios to test your user’s process and needs. Please walk through any process you plan on sending the user through to make sure your initial ideas still make sense.
1) What are the functional requirements of your website? (i.e. There should be a content management system for daily updates. The user should be able to search for stores. The look should follow the company branding guidelines.)
2) What are the content requirements of your product and who will be responsible for providing the information?
3) How often will content be updated? (job openings, events, press, etc.)
4) How often do you want users to come back?
5) What are some things your competition is doing right (on the web)? Where are they failing?
6) Are there other sites besides your competition who have features that might work for your project?
7) List any additional websites you like purely in regards to design.
8) Are there any additional considerations for your project?
